Race-winner Oldfield Motorsport has confirmed that American
single-seater ace Jason Conzo will drive for the team in the
opening two events of the 2023 GB4 Championship.
The 19-year-old already has circuit racing experience courtesy of
two seasons in a Ford Spec Racer 3 (SRF3) in the Sports Car Club of
America (SCCA) New England region, and then a couple of
single-seater campaigns in a Formula Enterprise 2 (FE2) machine in
the SCCA Hoosier Super Tour and Major Series.
His career began at the age of 10 in karting, competing in
numerous East Coast US events from Cadet through Tag Senior levels,
representing the factory Swiss Hutless team, and placing third in
the New York State Championship.
Upon graduating from karts, success continued as Jason took eight
wins from 21 podiums in his SRF3 campaigns, claiming lap records at
the Palmer Motorsports Park and Thompson Speedway in the
process.
Moving into single-seaters full-time in 2022 with his FE2 entry,
he claimed 13 wins from 16 podium finishes as he became champion in
both the SCCA Major North East Conference and the New England
Region, while finishing second in the SCCA National Runoffs. He
also earned another five track records on the way to his many
successes.
While not racing, Jason is studying Marketing at the State
University of New York, enjoys snowboarding, and is a NCAA Division
Three Track and Field Pole Vaulter.
He now heads to race in Europe for the first time, and joins
Formula Ford front-runners Oldfield Motorsport, who became GB4
race-winners in their debut series appearance at Silverstone last
summer.
Jason Conzo said: "My goal is to bring
Oldfield Motorsport to the front of the GB4 grid, and to leverage
my US formula racing experience overseas to fight wheel to wheel
with some of the best junior drivers in the UK."
Team Principal James Oldfield said: "We are
delighted to announce Jason Conzo in our GB4 team for the opening
rounds of the 2023 GB4 Championship. The category has really begun
to establish itself in the single seater market in the UK and
attracting international competitors in the form of new drivers and
new teams. Supporting GB3 and the British GT Championship, operated
under Jonathan Palmer's MSV company, GB4 is a very professionally
organised and promoted championship that provides a fantastic
platform for up-and-coming drivers like Jason to showcase their
abilities and learn all the required attributes to becoming a
professional racing driver.
"With a race win at our GB4 Championship debut event at
Silverstone last year with Lucas Romanek at the wheel, the team and
Jason can feel very confident of heading into these events of more
competitive performances possible."
