Bell/Balfe McLaren takes pole for GT Donington Decider

Saturday, September 14 2019

Shaun Balfe and Rob Bell will start this year's British GT Championship season finale from pole position after setting the fastest aggregate lap-time across a two-driver, split qualifying period at Donington Park this afternoon.

The McLaren 720S stormed to overall and GT pole position after Balfe topped the opening session for Am drivers, whilst Bell's efforts in the Pro session were faster than all but Lamborghini ace Phil Keen.

Keen and team-mate Adam Balon will start tomorrow's two-hour epic from second position as they aim to maintain their championship advantage over the rest and seal the crown in their Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO. Ian Loggie and Callum Macleod will complete the top-three on the grid in their Mercedes-AMG GT3.

Graham Davidson and Jonny Adam will start fourth as they chase the title from second in the standings, whilst the other car in the thick of the title fight - the second Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO of Sam De Haan and Jonny Cocker - starts seventh.

In the GT4 class, Sennan Fielding and Richard Williams will start from the head of the pack, after topping the times in their Audi R8 LMS GT4. Ash Hand and Tom Canning, who topped practice earlier in the day will start second in class in their Aston Martin, just ahead of Callum Pointon and Dean Macdonald's McLaren 570S GT4.
