Taylor and Gilkes claim Donington GB4 Poles

Saturday, May 28 2022

Nikolas Taylor and Megan Gilkes claimed pole positions in a close GB4 Championship qualifying session at Donington Park this morning.

Fortec's Taylor set the fastest time in the 15 minute session with a 1m29.637s and claimed pole position for race one, just 0.012s ahead of Hillspeed's Megan Gilkes in second.

Gilkes however will start race two from pole, with the grid for that contest based on each driver's second best times.

Gilkes had held top spot for much of the final third of qualifying and at one stage looked on course for a double pole until Taylor's late effort right at the end just pipped her.

Taylor's fourth pole of the season means he takes the lead of the George Russell Pole Position Cup standings, and was presented with his trophy after qualifying by Russell's former Team Principal Graham Johnson.

Away from the front two, championship leader Alex Walker was third for Elite Motorsport, a tenth of a second away from Gilkes and 0.071s faster than the second Hillspeed car of Max Marzorati.

Newcomer Daryl DeLeon was third for Valour Racing until the final stages, when he dropped down to fifth, but was just 0.351s away from the outright pace on his first single-seater race weekend.

Tom Mills was another driver to hold provisional pole, less than a tenth of a second away from DeLeon and three thousandths of a second ahead of Elite's Jack Sherwood, who took seventh at his local track.

Jarrod Waberski was eighth for Kevin Mills Racing, with the second newcomer of the weekend, Valour's Danny Harrison ninth and just eight tenths of a second away from pole as he also prepares for a maiden single-seater contest.

Logan Hannah completed the top-10, which was covered by just over nine tenths of a second.

On the race two grid, decided by drivers' second fastest times, Gilkes lines up on pole, 0.124s faster than Walker, with Taylor and Mills completing row two.

Marzorati and Sherwood were fifth and sixth on second fastest times, with DeLeon, Hannah, Waberski and Harrison completing the top-10

The first race of the weekend is due to commence at 14.35, with full live streaming coverage available on the GB4 website.
