Lebbon launches to maiden GB3 victory in Silverstone race two

Sunday, May 08 2022

A daring first lap move for Tom Lebbon secured his first win in the GB3 Championship, and a maiden triumph for the Elite Motorsport team too in race two at Silverstone.

Lebbon started second and though pole sitter Joel Granfors made a good start, Lebbon was able to squeeze past at Maggotts on the first lap.

Lebbon stretched out a small lead of just over a second, but Granfors reeled him in with a couple of laps to go. But two strong laps at the end of the contest earned the Elite driver a controlled first victory.

Granfors finished 1.013s behind in second, with Luke Browning third for Hitech, consolidating his championship lead.

Max Esterson backed up his fourth place finish in race one by doing the same in race two for Douglas Motorsport, while Carlin's Callum Voisin fought up from seventh on the grid to take fifth, after some entertaining racing including with teammate Roberto Faria, who finished sixth.

Elite's James Hedley was another driver to engage in battle with the Carlins, and finished seventh, just three tenths of a second ahead of JHR's Matthew Rees who climbed from 12th to eighth.

James Bennett ensured all three Elite cars were represented inside the top-10 with ninth place, while Alex Connor earned tenth place for Arden, ahead of Carlin's Javier Sagrera, who finished seventh on the road but was penalised five seconds for exceeding track limits.

The final GB3 race of the weekend at Silverstone is due to commence at 16.55, with full live streaming and timing available via the official website.
