British F3's O'Sullivan selected for BRDC SuperStars programme

Wednesday, March 10 2021

BRDC British Formula 3 Championship competitor Zak O'Sullivan has become the youngest driver ever to be selected for the BRDC SuperStars programme, ahead of his maiden season in the UK's leading single-seater championship this year.

Gloucestershire's O'Sullivan has been selected for the programme, created by 1996 Formula 1 World Champion Damon Hill, highlighting his status as an elite British competitor.

The 16-year-old follows in the footsteps of Formula Two runner-up Callum Ilott and double BTCC champion Ash Sutton in being selected to join the programme, based on on-track accomplishments and off-track demeanour.

O'Sullivan will race in BRDC British F3 this year with the championship winning Carlin team, following an impressive campaign in British F4 throughout 2020, picking up nine wins.

Following a winter testing programme, O'Sullivan will compete for one of the most prestigious crowns in British motor racing from the opening event of the season at Brands Hatch on 22/23 May.

Writing to O'Sullivan to announce the news, renowned sportscar driver and BRDC Superstars director, Andy Meyrick, said: "You have demonstrated the skills and capabilities of someone who has the key ingredients to be a future top-level professional racing driver."

O'Sullivan said: "It's a genuine honour to be selected for the BRDC SuperStars programme after only two years of car racing. I'm really grateful to Andy and the team at the BRDC for showing faith in me - I'll be doing all I can to repay that across the season. I'm really looking forward to stepping up to British F3 this year and knowing I have the BRDC's support as I do that is really special."
