Kwik Fit BTCC to trial new qualifying format at Snetterton

Wednesday, October 30 2019

A new qualifying format will be trialled at Snetterton's round of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship on 25-26 July, with an F1-style top-10 shootout introduced to add an extra element of drama to the weekend.

The series' traditional 30-minute session will be shortened to an initial 25-minute period on the Saturday, ahead of a new 10-minute session which will see the fastest 10 drivers dash around the circuit in a bid to seize pole position.

This trial comes alongside additional tweaks to the success ballast system, with an increased maximum weight of 60kg and the introduction of Goodyear tyres, three compounds of which will be used across the Snetterton weekend on the full 300 circuit.

Alan Gow, Chief Executive of TOCA, commented: "Clearly, the regulations for the BTCC work tremendously well. That's self-evident from the fantastically close racing and championship battles, but we're always looking at ways in which they can be improved, so whilst these are fairly minor tweaks, they will certainly add some interesting new elements to next season's championship."
