Brookes takes Bennetts BSB race one pole as Redding starts ninth

Saturday, October 19 2019

2015 Bennetts British Superbike Champion Josh Brookes takes pole position for this afternoon's opening race of the triple-header title-deciding weekend, while his Be Wiser Ducati teammate Scott Redding has to settle for ninth on the grid after a technical problem in qualifying.

The pair hold the top two spots in the championship, with Redding 28 points ahead, and Brookes admitted Redding's failure to finish in Q3 was a bonus.

"It's ideal, I've got to be selfish in this moment and say that Scott not qualifying in the final phase of qualifying is ideal for my situation, and me being on pole is the icing on the cake. It's still going to be a challenge, from that positon Scott can easily come through and challenge towards the end of the race so there's nothing confirmed with that, it just throws us a bone so to speak," he said.

Brookes stole pole position from Danny Buchan in the final lap of qualifying, while Christian Iddon finished third to claim his first front row of the season. Title contender Tommy Bridewell finished fourth.
