Brookes tops timings ahead of Bennetts BSB finale weekend

Friday, October 18 2019

2015 Bennetts British Superbike Champion Josh Brookes was fastest in practice at a damp Brands Hatch today ahead of the triple-header season finale weekend on the full Grand Prix circuit.

Track conditions played a major role in today's action, with intermittent bright sunshine and showers plus chilly temperatures. Brookes, who is 28 points adrift of championship leader and his Be Wiser Ducati teammate Scott Redding, admitted he wasn't sure whether unpredictable conditions over the weekend would play to his advantage.

"I'm in two minds actually because obviously I need something a bit tricky to maybe offset Scott's performance a little and see if we can bridge a few points back, but if it was just my personal choice I'd rather it was dry. It just makes everything easier for the mechanics and myself, for the spectators, the fans, the TV - everyone's happier when it's a dry, sunny day of course.

"Looking at championship potential, I've got to look at maybe there's more likelihood that Scott will make a mistake in trickier conditions, but then I could make a mistake too," he said.

Redding heads the points table from Brookes with Oxford Racing Ducati's Tommy Bridewell in third. One of the three will lift the trophy at the end of the weekend so expect plenty of on-track fireworks along the way.

Free practice two result:

  1. Josh Brookes (Be Wiser Ducati) 1:28.873s
  2. Danny Buchan (FS-3 Racing Kawasaki) +0.038s
  3. Christian Iddon (Tyco BMW) +0.437s
  4. Scott Redding (Be Wiser Ducati) +0.991s
  5. James Ellison (OMG Racing Suzuki) +1.000s
  6. Peter Hickman (Smiths Racing BMW) +1.440s
  7. Tommy Bridewell (Oxford Racing Ducati) +1.626s
