World Rally Championship blasts into Oulton Park this October

Wednesday, May 22 2019

The FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) returns to Oulton Park for the first time since 1993 this October when the Cheshire circuit hosts the opening Thursday evening (3 October) special stage of this year's Wales Rally GB (3-6 October).

For many rally fans, this event will be their first opportunity in 2019 to experience the latest generation of superfast World Rally Cars and to witness the extreme skills of star drivers such as multiple World champion Sébastien Ogier, Thierry Neuville, Ott Tänak and local heroes Kris Meeke and Elfyn Evans. Tickets for the Oulton Park Special Stage are only available to purchase in advance, priced at £25, whilst children aged 15 and under go free.

Oulton Park last hosted the WRC more than 25 years ago, when Juha Kankkunen was fastest in a field that included legends Colin McRae, Richard Burns, Ari Vatanen and Malcolm Wilson. Its return will see an exclusively-designed stage layout incorporating the picturesque circuit and the venue's own rally course. A full evening of entertainment is planned, with appearances from WRC legends and iconic vehicles, live music and DJs, historic rally displays and an autograph session which will be open to all spectators.

The Oulton Park event will be the curtain-raiser for the weekend's action that takes in the challenges of all the classic Welsh forest stages as well as a new street stage in Colwyn Bay and Llandudno's iconic Great Orme.

Jonathan Palmer, Chief Executive of Oulton Park owner MotorSport Vision, said: "I'm thrilled that Oulton Park will host the first stage of Wales Rally GB - and for the first time in over 25 years. I started my motorsport career as a 17 year old talking part in 12 car rallies in my mother's Triumph Herald and grew up being an avid follower of international rallying - and Roger Clark in particular.

"I love being able to appreciate the top drivers' stunning car control, watching them drift exquisite machinery, and that's exactly what our fans will have a unique chance to witness at Oulton Park in October. We've worked closely with Motorsport UK to create a truly spectacular stage, which will be able to be enjoyed amidst Oulton Park's first-class spectator facilities and outstanding vantage points."

Elfyn Evans, winner of Wales Rally GB in 2017, commented: "Taking Wales Rally GB to new places is a great way of introducing the WRC to new audiences and so Oulton Park is the perfect place to kick-start the 2019 event. A Thursday night stage under the lights at Oulton Park will thrill both first-time and seasoned rally enthusiasts. There is a lot of rallying history at Oulton Park and it will be great to entertain the crowds and bring the modern WRC cars to this iconic circuit, more than 25 years since the rally was last there."

Wales Rally GB is round 12 of the prestigious 14-round 2019 FIA World Rally Championship, with 22 special stages totalling more than 200 miles of world class against-the-clock competition.

Please note that Oulton Park and Four Wheel Season Passes are not valid for this event, but Residents' Passes will be.
