Aston Martin tops opening British GT practice at Snetterton

Saturday, May 18 2019

Nicki Thiim and Mark Farmer topped the opening Britsh GT Championship session of the weekend at Snetterton in their TF Sport prepared Aston Martin V8 Vantage with a lap of 1m49.175s around the full 300 circuit this morning (Saturday).

Thiim's fastest lap was a narrow 0.011s ahead of the Lamborghini Huracan Phil Keen shares with Adam Balon on a circuit which improved throughout the session as it dried following morning dampness.

Third place went to Marco Sorensen and Andrew Howard's Aston Martin, just ahead of the Lamborghini of Sam De Haan and Jonny Cocker and the Bentley Continental GT of Rick Parfitt Jnr and Seb Morris as the top-five were separated by just three-tenths-of-a-second.

Shaun Balfe and Rob Bell put the new McLaren 720S GT3 sixth ahead of its British GT race debut tomorrow, offering plenty of encouragment after the same machine was withdrawn from the season opener at Oulton Park.

Serial British GT Championship race-winner and reigning champion Jonny Adam was seventh in the Aston Martin V8 Vantage he co-pilots with Graham Davidson as they pursue their first victory of the year.

Chris Car and Dino Zamparelli topped the GT4 class in the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport which makes its first appearance of the season at the Norfolk circuit this weekend.
