Porsche returns to top-flight British GT for 2019

Tuesday, February 26 2019

Porsche will return to top-tier British GT racing this year with the brand new 911 GT3 R, set to be piloted by Shamus Jennings and team owner Greg Caton for G-Cat Racing.

The outfit is set to contest all seven British GT rounds with what is believed to be the first 2019-spec 911 GT3 R in Britain. This is the first time that Porsche machinery has been raced in the GT3 division since 2015, with the German marque also represented in the GT4 and GTC categories thanks to GT Marques and WPI Motorsport respectively.

Porsche have a long and extensive history within British GT as the championship's most successful constructor, with a total of 156 wins in all classes since the start of series in 1993, twice the amount scored by second place holders Ginetta.

G-Cat Racing have also experienced further success in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB with multiple Am and Pro-Am podiums, with Jennings taking the Pro-Am2 title in 2017.

The Porsche news means there will be no fewer than seven manufacturers represented in the 2019 GT3 division featuring a dramatic mix of some of the most exotic vehicles.

"British GT represents an exciting next step for G-Cat Racing, and doing so with Porsche makes it even more special" said Caton. "We have an excellent relationship with Porsche from our time in the Carrera Cup and their latest evolution of the 911 GT3 R is a fantastic piece of engineering. The high standard is exactly what we've come to expect from Porsche and coupled with their first-rate customer support we couldn't be happier to be entering into this venture with one of their cars."

This year's British GT championship kicks off at Oulton Park on 20 & 22 April, with discounted tickets on sale now. Adult weekend tickets are priced at £27 with main raceday (Monday) tickets priced at £20. Kid's under-13 go FREE.
