Star cars wow the fans at sumptuous Festival Italia

Sunday, August 18 2019

The cars were the stars at Brands Hatch this afternoon as Festival Italia made a resounding return to the Indy circuit with a Ferrari headlined race programme, F1 demonstrations, and plenty of family fun off the track.

Tristan Simpson won the headline Pirelli Ferrari Formula Classic opener, which followed a pre-race opening ceremony and grid walk. It was a close run thing, with only seven tenths of a second separating the top-three of Simpson, Wayne Marrs, and Tim Mogridge.

Mogridge took the win in the second race of the day after a last gasp move to depose Simpson, whilst Marrs completed the podium once more.

In the BRSCC Alfa Romeo Championship, the victories were split betwen Simon McFie and George Osborne, as a stunning grid of Alfa Romeos and other elgible Italian cars took to the circuit.

Other highlights included a stunning F1 demonstration featuring machinery from Dallara, Benetton, and Osella. After an inital morning session in which only a handful of cars took part amidst a rain shower, an eight-strong line-up took to the circuit in the afternoon for an opera of F1's classic sound.

The venue was filled with stunning display cars which created a real buzz, whilst visitors engaged in all manner of Italian themed activities. From market shopping to language lessons, Brands Hatch was alive with activity!
