Brookes poaches pole at Bennetts BSB ‘Party in the Park’

Saturday, August 17 2019

Josh Brookes takes pole position for tomorrow's Bennetts British Superbike Championship opening race after an eventful qualifying session at Cadwell Park that saw Ryan Vickers twice crash out on the same spot and Bradley Ray snatch his first front row of the season.

Local favourite Peter Hickman was frustrated after getting caught behind Gino Rea in Q2 and being eliminated from the final qualifying session. And Brookes' Be Wiser Ducati teammate Scott Redding had to settle for fourth after admitting the track was a tough challenge on his first visit.

Today's conditions were a marked change from yesterday's deluge that cut short free practice two, with bright sunshine and a gentle breeze throughout the day bringing bike fans flocking to the Lincolnshire Wolds circuit. And tomorrow's forecast promises more sunshine for the two headline Bennetts BSB races.

Brookes said: "I'm really pleased. We've had a couple of poor years here the last two visits, haven't really been able to do anything that's satisfying, so to have the bike that feels the way it does underneath me, I don't need to follow anybody to do the lap, I can do it on my own.

"The bike feels like it's doing what I want it to do and we're doing the lap times that prove it. I can't be more pleased for myself but obviously I've got to thank everybody involved with the team, all the sponsors and my mechanics that do the work, and look at this, we've had a fantastic crowd here on a Saturday afternoon."
