Turkington doubles up in Donington BTCC race two

Sunday, April 28 2019

Team BMW's Colin Turkington stormed to his second Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship win of the weekend in the second race at Donington this afternoon (Sunday).

Turkington again had to contend with multiple safety car restarts, and eventually took the flag with a two second gap to second place man Matt Neal in the Halfords Yuasa Racing Honda Civic.

Ashley Sutton took third for Subaru ahead of Tom Chilton, with Rory Butcher fifth in the AmD Honda Civic.

Jason Plato secured his best result of the season in sixth for the Power Maxed Vauxhall Astra, almost three seconds clear of team mate Rob Collard, with Josh Cook eighth in the BTC Racing Honda Civic.

Jake Hill took advantage of several incidents to surge from 29th on the grid to ninth place in his Audi S3, ahead of Tom Ingram's Toyota Corolla.

The first safety car was dispatched when Mark Blundell and Sam Osborne collided at the Robert's Chicane, with Blundell left stranded in the gravel. The race restarted only for Chris Smiley to beach his Honda Civic in the gravel at the Craner Curves not long after.

The race restarted with four laps remaining, with Turkington pulling out an advantage, while Neal found his way past Sutton with three laps remaining to claim his first podium of the season, with Sutton settling for third.

Turkington commented: "That's more wins than I had last year already. A fantastic day for me so far, the car has been lightning fast. It's really good, I'm in it to win it, I'm really enjoying the car and it couldn't be any better so far!"

The final BTCC race of the weekend is due to start at 17.15.
