Local man Jordan jumps to fastest time in BTCC FP1 at Donington

Saturday, April 27 2019

Donington-local Andrew Jordan made the most of his home advantage to post the fastest time in the opening practice session for the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park this morning (Saturday).

The BMW driver's best time, set towards the end of the session was good enough to put him 0.050s clear of 2017 champion Ashley Sutton, with Honda's Dan Cammish completing the top-three.

Tom Ingram, backed by thousands of local Toyota employees this weekend, was fourth quickest, just over two tenths off the pace, with reigning champion Colin Turkington making it two BMW 330i M Sports in the top five.

Jason Plato was an encouraging sixth quickest in the Vauxhall Astra, a little over half a second away from the outright pace.

Chris Smiley posted the seventh quickest effort in the BTC Honda Civic, ahead of the older Type-R machine of Brands Hatch winner Rory Butcher.

Butcher's team mate Sam Tordoff, and Team HARD's Jack Goff completed the top-10.

Session-topper Jordan commented: "The car seems good this weekend and it and felt great out the box. We worked through some changes in that session there and we've got some more to make ahead of the next one. It seems we're heading in the right direction!"

The session was dominated by Hondas at the start, with Matt Simpson, Matt Neal and then Cammish the early pace setters. Ingram also had a spell at the top, before Sutton posted an effort 12 minutes in, which looked destined to be the fastest overall before Jordan's last gasp effort.

The second BTCC session starts at 12.35, ahead of qualifying at 15.15.
