Sutton on the button in BTCC FP1 at Brands Hatch

Saturday, September 29 2018

Reigning Dunlop MSA British Touring Car champion Ashley Sutton led the way in the opening Free Practice session of the weekend ahead of tomorrow's (Sunday) season finale at Brands Hatch.

Sutton lapped the world famous Grand Prix circuit in 1m31.090s to pip Andrew Jordan's Team BMW machine  by just one-tenth-of-a-second in the 40-minute session.

Jack Goff's WIX Racing Honda Civic Type R, which claimed pole positoin for the Brands Hatch Indy round of the championhip back in April, was third fastest, just ahead of Tom Chilton, driving for the local Motorbase team - the first of those still in with a chance of the championship.

Adam Morgan was next in fifth with Tom Ingram, second in the championship heading into the weekend, completing the top-six in his Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis.

Championship leader Colin Turkington could only set the 15th fastest time in his BMW 125i M Sport, but heads into the first of the weekend's three races with the maximum possible success ballast.

The next BTCC practice session is scheduled for 12:05 this afternoon.
