Monger meets the marshals at Donington Park

Sunday, September 23 2018

Before the start of the second day of the Donington Park round, Billy Monger made a stop-off at the marshal briefing to meet the hundreds of volunteers in orange, without whom racing couldn't take place.

Many of the marshals at this weekend's event were at the circuit last April, when Billy suffered his life-changing accident, and this was a first opportunity for the 19-year-old to say hello and thank you.

Speaking at the briefing, he commented: "I just wanted to come here this morning to say thank you for everything you do - we couldn't go racing without you guys. For me as a driver, you let us do what we love so a big round of applause for everything you do for us."

He then joked: "Obviously, I've had a chance to meet some of you guys about 18 months ago with my accident, which feels like a lifetime ago now. You should feel very proud of yourselves for what you do and I hope you have a nice race day with not too much to do this time, I don't want to be seeing you too often when I'm out on track!"

Over 200 marshals are at this weekend's British GT and BRDC British F3 event, and anyone interested in marshalling at motorsport events should visit www.marshals.co.uk.
