Rea holds off Sykes to take Free Practice 3

Friday, May 25 2018

Reigning MOTUL FIM Superbike World Champion Jonathan Rea got the upper hand over Tom Sykes in Free Practice 3, beating his rival's best lap time in the closing seconds in a repeat of FP2.

The pair went into the final practice of the day with one a-piece but it was three-time champion Rea who took advantage of the drying track to register the quickest time, despite going through the gravel seconds earlier.

The rivalry between the two Brits is clear as they battle to impress the home crowd and the stage is perfectly set for a thrilling weekend of racing. Rea and Sykes automatically go through to tomorrow's Superpole 2, along with Lorenzo Savadori who finished with the third best lap time.

'Pocket Rocket' and Donington Park local Leon Haslam finished seventh, with fellow Bennetts British Superbike Championship wildcard close behind in ninth.
