Adam/Haigh Aston leads British GT Championship FP1

Saturday, March 31 2018

Jonny Adam and Flick Haigh topped the times in the opening free practice session of the British GT Championship season opener at Oulton Park this morning, setting a time of 1m35.321s in their Optimum Motorsport Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3.

The Mercedes-AMG of Mark Murfitt and Michael Broadhurst led the way in the GT4 class at the end of the hour-long session in slightly damp conditions.

The top three overall were separated by a mere three-tenths of a second with the ERC sport Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Lee Mowle and Yelmer Buurman in second position, just ahead of Jon Minshaw and Phil Keen's Lamborghini Huracan. Keen and Minshaw dominated this meeting last year in tricky conditions and are sure to be a pairing to watch this Easter.

Reigning champion Rick Parfitt Jr and new co-driver Ryan Ratcliffe finished the session down in 11th position, with plenty of time to find ahead of qualifying later on.

British GT Championship, Free Practice One, Result
1, Adam/Haigh, Aston Martin V12 Vantage, 1m35.321s
2, Mowle/Buurman, Mercedes-AMG, +0.258s
3, Minshaw/Keen, Lamborghini Huracan, +0.315s
4, Balfe/Bell, McLaren 650S, +0.411s

The second free practice session is scheduled to take place at 12:10, ahead of a four-part qualifying period late in the afternoon as follows:

15:55                    British GT Championship GT Am qualifying
16:09                    British GT Championship GT Pro qualifying
16:23                    British GT Championship GT4 Am qualifying
16:38                    British GT Championship GT4 Pro qualifying

The two Am classes are for the grid's gentleman drivers and their afternoon qualifying times will set the grid positions for Monday's opening race. The Pro classes will star the full-time racing professionals, whose times will determine the starting order for race two.

The British GT cars will star in two races on Easter Monday, each an hour in duration, with pit-stops driver changes, and plenty of drama.
