One week to go – Bennetts British Superbikes at Oulton Park

Saturday, April 28 2018

Just a week to go until the Bennetts British Superbike Championship arrives at Oulton Park (5-7 May) for what promises to be a thrilling Bank Holiday weekend of racing, with young hot-shot Bradley Ray leading the title race and current holder and six-time champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne hot on his heels.

The third round of the series roars into the picturesque Cheshire circuit for two headline BSB races and a top-class support package including Dickies Junior Supersport and Pirelli National Superstock 600 and 1000.

2017 rookie Ray is looking to pick up more points this weekend to maintain his lead, and is still revelling in his early advantage.

"My confidence is high after the first two rounds and Oulton Park was the circuit where I got my first podium in Superbike last year, so I have some good memories there. We need to not get ahead of ourselves and start the weekend as we have the previous two, working hard in practice and qualifying so we are in the top six and then putting ourselves in a good position to come out fighting on raceday," he said.

Meanwhile, six-time champion Byrne is looking forward to the challenge of Oulton Park despite his previous issues with the circuit. A good performance in last week's test has bolstered his confidence.

"I really like Oulton Park, but we have never had the closest of relationships! The track is really fun to ride and tough to race but we turned a bit of a corner with the Ducati here a year or two ago and went really fast in qualifying and a strong finish with a second and a first.

"You know traditionally Oulton Park has been a strong circuit for some of our rivals but the test was really good and that makes me feel like going into the race weekend, we have a good place to start. We should hopefully have something else to test which should be another step better as well, so all in all I am looking forward to coming back. I always just want to race my superbike!" he said.

Adult tickets are £37 for the weekend or £28 for the main raceday Monday, available online until midday on Thursday with discounts for teens (13-15). Children under 13 go FREE - full details here.
