Byrne takes BSB race one after Ray mistake

Sunday, April 15 2018

A classy performance from reigning champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne saw him take advantage of an error by fellow Kent rider Bradley Ray to win the first of today's two Bennetts British Superbike Championship races at Brands Hatch.

Ray - who took both races in the opening round at Donington Park - was on pole and led until lap 29 of 30, when a mistake at Paddock Hill Bend let Byrne through on the inside to power to victory.

Local favourite Byrne said: "When he made his mistake at Paddock I pounced, promptly followed by making a mistake at probably my strongest part of the track and losing the rear.

"I'm happy to win, first win of the year and he's been a bit greedy so far!"

Bradley Ray takes pole again in race two, with Byrne second and Leon Haslam completing the front row of the grid.
