MCE British Superbike stars set to fly as Cadwell gets set for ‘Party in the Park

Monday, August 22 2016

The MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship is set for its annual visit to Lincolnshire this Bank Holiday weekend (27/28/29 August) as tens of thousands of fans from across the UK head to the spectacular Cadwell Park circuit near Louth.

The Lincolnshire round is arguably the highlight of the season, and the only place in the country to see the riders get fully airborne as they crest the famous Mountain section. The circuit is also renowned for its superb viewing opportunities, and a party atmosphere that extends to the lively campsite.

This year's championship is reaching a crucial point as the riders battle to be in the top six in the standings ahead of the final three-round Showdown, which decides the outcome of the championship. Added to this the home team, Honda Racing, is gunning for glory.

Based in Louth, Honda Racing are multiple champions in MCE BSB and with Jason O'Halloran and Dan Linfoot both inside the top six in the standings after claiming a victory and a further seven podium finishes between them, their hopes of home success are high at Cadwell Park.

Australian O'Halloran, who is based in Market Rasen, said: "I am really looking forward to my home race as Cadwell Park is the closest one to my home in the UK! I really enjoy riding there and I missed last year's race because I was injured so I am ready to get back out again, especially as I have a lot of support at this round with my sponsors being local.

"We had a really good test a few weeks ago and I set the fastest lap I have ever done around Cadwell Park. I am feeling confident and after the last three rounds we have to keep the momentum going. We need to score more podium points and qualify for the Showdown and that is what is important. Everyone is so close now so we need to have a strong Cadwell Park."

Four-time champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne leads the way in the standings for the Be Wiser Ducati team, but he'll face a stern challenge from JG Speedfit Kawasaki's Leon Haslam, who last raced at Cadwell Park in 2008 before switching to the World Superbike Championship.

Local contenders including race winner Peter Hickman (Louth) and Lee Jackson (Lincoln) will also be in the hunt for podiums, and with six different race winners and a further six podium finishers so far this season, expect some fierce battles for victory on Bank Holiday Monday!

The weekend features a host of support class action led by the Dickies British Supersport Championship with a large trade village and live music on Sunday evening, a huge funfair and the infamous 'Wall of Death'.
