Harri Newey enjoys F4 test at Brands Hatch

Monday, July 28 2014

Harri Newey, son of F1 design legend Adrian, got behind the wheel of an F4 car at Brands Hatch on Friday (25 July), his 16th birthday. Newey is looking at making the switch from kart racing to cars.

Newey has competed in Super 1 KF3 and CIK-FIA series in the past couple of years, and is currently competing in International KF Junior karting. He started in the Cadet category in Easykart in 2009, before stepping up to the Formula Kart Stars MSA Cadet category in 2010.

Newey tackled mixed weather conditions on track as he got up to speed in the Douglas Motorsport-run machine.

Newey commented: “It’s been a great experience and actually not too different from being in a kart. It was interesting being on track with other drivers and you have to keep your eyes on your mirrors, but nothing too different from kart racing. It’s a shame it rained on part of the day, but all drivers need practice in the wet so it was actually quite useful!

“It’s a big step up from karting, you have to get used to the way the car moves around in a way that the kart doesn’t. It’s completely different and the tracks are much bigger as well! The car is great and F4 is a serious option for me next year.”
