Jack Barlow named as BRDC F4's 20th driver

Monday, April 22 2013

Highly rated karting graduate Jack Barlow has today (Monday, 22 April), completed SWR's three driver line-up for the BRDC Formula 4 Championship which will get underway this weekend (27/28 April) on the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit. In doing so he becomes the 20th driver to sign up to the championship so far.

Barlow, who resides in Hastings, has been working hard in recent weeks to finalise the required budget to make his car racing debut in F4 with SWR. Having made his test debut with the outfit at Pembrey in South Wales in early April, the 17-year-old also enjoyed a strong outing at Snetterton 300 Circuit in Norfolk and is now thrilled to have finally secured his 2013 race deal.

"It's been a hard struggle to get the budget together but I'm really happy we've managed to join SWR for the season, there's no other team I wanted to be with", said Barlow. "They've done a great job during the few tests we've done and the whole team has been so supportive.

"Compared to almost all the other lads in the championship we've had nowhere near the same amount of track time, I'll go into the first race with about four days under my belt so we'll take it as it comes. The competitive streak in me will want to be fighting for the top three as soon as I possibly can though!"

Making his motorsport debut in the ranks of national karting in 2007, the youngster won his first title in 2009 in Formula Kart Stars Rotax Mini Max and proceeded to carve out an impressive career. His greatest success came in 2011 when he secured three coveted titles - the Super 1 Junior Rotax Championship, Rotax Cup and Kartmasters Grand Prix. Last year, he was third in Super 1 KF2.

Barlow's maiden season of 'slicks and wings' car racing is being made possible thanks to key support from Skinners of Rye, Key Motor Finance and Rollersigns and SWR team owner Sean Walkinshaw is very pleased to have secured the car racing rookie's signature.

"It really is fantastic to have filled all three of our seats for the inaugural season of F4", he said, "We have enjoyed working with Jack during the few tests we've done and we're confident he'll be a very quick learner.

"It's not going to be easy for Jack, Zou [Sirui] or Matty [Graham], especially with some very strong, experienced car racers in the championship, but we're looking forward to helping them develop their skills and pace as the season goes on."

After months of intensive preparation, the BRDC Formula 4 Championship season properly gets underway tomorrow (Tuesday, 23 April), with official testing at Snetterton. From there, the squad will return to its Oxfordshire base in readiness for rounds one, two and three of the campaign at Silverstone this coming Saturday and Sunday (27/28 April).
