David Coulthard looks ahead to Brands Hatch DTM round

Sunday, January 15 2012

Ex-Formula One star and current DTM driver David Coulthard has been a regular visitor to the Autosport International show at the Birmingham NEC, and this year is no exception. Taking time out of his busy schedule at the show today, the Scotsman signed autographs at the MSV stand and gave his thoughts on racing at Brands Hatch and the forthcoming DTM season.

"Brands Hatch is a great venue" commented Coulthard. "It's great for spectators and I have so many good memories from there from lower formulas and it's a fun little track to race on."

The BBC F1 commentator is now entering his third season of DTM competition, and admits he is still looking to make further progress in tin tops.

"The third year sounds like I've done a lot but I've only done 20 races! But I'm feeling a lot more comfortable in touring cars now and getting used to what is needed to drive the car quickly and I'm hoping to further improve my performances this year."

Having raced at Brands Hatch twice in DTM, Coulthard has experienced the Kent track in both wet and dry conditions. In Formula One he was regarded as one of the most talented wet weather racers, securing several wins in wet conditions, notably in 2001 at Interlagos, Brazil. However when it comes to choosing the conditions at Brands Hatch in May, Coulthard is unperturbed.

"A dry race is always good because you're going to get stuck in but I think I had a reasonable wet weather performance at Brands Hatch this year so I'll just take what comes" he concluded.

Coulthard will be competing against fellow F1 star Ralf Schumacher, and fellow Brits Oliver Jarvis and Gary Paffett at Brands Hatch on 18-20 May 2012. For more information and to book tickets call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
