SWR: ‘We’re not in F4 to make up the numbers’

Monday, December 31 2012

Earlier this year, leading motorsport outfit Sean Walkinshaw Racing announced they will run a two-car assault in the BRDC F4 Championship - one of 11 teams competing in the inaugural season.

The Oxfordshire-based team was originally founded by the late Tom Wallkinshaw, who ran squads in the British Touring Car Championship in the early 1980s, before branching out into World Championship Sportscar racing and then Formula 1. With further success at the Le Mans 24 Hours, the Walkinshaw name is now synonymous with the Australian V8 Supercar series.

Now the team is gearing up for their F4 debut and have already received plenty of interest from prospective drivers as Team Principal Ken Page explains: "The interest so far has been amazing with enquiries from a number of drivers. I'm afraid we can't give any names away just yet but hopefully we can announce them soon," adds Ken who has been involved with the team since 1979.

Sean Walkinshaw Racing will also call upon the expertise of Commercial Manager Mick Gomme, who boasts several years F1 experience with Jordan Grand Prix and Force India, together with race engineer Brendan Gribben who is a former TWR Chief Designer and respected engineer in the FIA Formula 2 Championship. "We're confident we have the team to enjoy success from the start," continues Ken. "We're not in the series just to make up the numbers, as I'm sure none of the other teams are!"

Adding: "The series is set to be great next year and will be run on sensible budgets by MSV who have a history of running successful championships. The biggest challenge will be understanding the car and tyre packages but we're confident we can do this quickly."
