2012-spec F2 car laps two seconds faster in Barcelona

Wednesday, December 14 2011

Reigning FIA Formula Two Champion Mirko Bortolotti was behind the wheel of the official F2 test car this week, testing a number of major developments that are set to be introduced for the 2012 season.

The young Italian lapped consistently faster than the rest of the 18 drivers present, and ended the day 2.363s quicker than the next fastest driver, Christopher Zanella.

As this stage the new features are still in development but three major areas are being evaluated with those being tyres, brakes and aerodynamics.

F2 Chief Engineer James Goodfield commented: "We're very excited about the developments we have planned for next year's F2 car. Although we're unable to reveal full details at this time, we are working on three new major advances that we're confident will make the JPH1B significantly faster - potentially between two to three seconds per lap depending on the circuit. Furthermore, the enhancements will lead to much closer racing."

Further details on the 2012 Formula Two season will be announced shortly.
