BTCC reveals 23 car grid for 2010

Tuesday, March 23 2010

The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship officially unveiled its 2010 driver line-up at Brands Hatch today (Tuesday 23 March), with a strong grid of 23 cars set to compete this season.

Teams, media and fans have gathered at the Kent circuit for the BTCC's official launch event, which began with a 'class of 2010' photograph on the start/finish straight.

Seven different manufacturers will feature on the grid including official manufacturer entries from Honda and Chevrolet. Leading the charge for these teams will be double champion Matt Neal and race winner Gordon Shedden in a pair of Honda Civics, whilst fans' favourite Jason Plato and newcomer Alex McDowell will debut the Chevrolet Cruze in the BTCC.

Top squad Triple Eight Race Engineering, which steered Vauxhall to six titles during the last decade, will enter two Vauxhall Vectras this season - although it is yet to reveal its driver line-up - whilst Team Aon will use pioneering liquified petroleum gas (LPG) technology for its pair of Ford Focus STs, piloted by Tom Chilton and Tom Onslow-Cole.

Reigning champions West Surrey Racing (WSR) and Kent-based team Motorbase Performance will both field new line-ups this season, with Rob Collard and Andy Neate spearheading the former's campaign, whilst Steven Kane and Mat Jackson will compete for Motorbase, which has retained its Airwaves sponsorship in 2010.

Other notable entries this season include Pirtek Racing and Pinkney Motorsport, which will run the new BTCC turbo-charged Next Generation Touring Car engines for Andrew Jordan and David Pinkney respectively, and the return of the VW Golf to the BTCC with Orpington racer Shaun Hollamby.
