Brands season gets underway this Sunday with rally action

Thursday, January 28 2016

The 2016 season at Brands Hatch will get off to an early start this Sunday (31 January), when the MGJ Engineering Winter Stages will bring the exciting sport of rallying back to the Kent venue.

A huge entry is set to contest the event, and will cover eight challenging stage routes. These will incorporate the Indy circuit's tarmac in both directions, plus the pits, paddock, access roads and dedicated rally stage. Click here to download the stage maps.

Unlike most rallies, visitors won't need to venture into the forest to see the drivers tackling the stages. You'll be able to watch them perform sideways powerslides, handbrake turns and jumps from the circuit's panoramic spectator banks and grandstands, plus a dedicated viewing area for the gravel rally stage. The event forms the fifth round of the brand new MSVR-run Motorsport News Circuit Rally Championship, which has encouraged the packed entry. You'll be able to watch the cars being prepared in a special rally paddock, which will be located opposite the famous circuit's start/finish straight.

The entry includes an eclectic mixture of vehicles, including the classic rear-wheel-drive Ford Escorts and Lotus Sunbeams that dominated the forests in the 1970s. More recent machinery covers the popular Subaru Impreza, Mitsubishi Evo and Ford Focus WRC models that brought Britain's rally heroes Colin McRae and Richard Burns to the forefront of the sport. In addition to these there are several sportscars, including the Mazda MX-5, kitcars and a brace of Ferraris. Click here to download the entry list.

The event will commence at 10am and run until after dusk, when the spectacle of blazing headlights, flaming exhausts and glowing brake discs is sure to provide a memorable sight!

Tickets for the MGJ Engineering Brands Hatch Winter Stages are available on the gate for £16 or £10 for 13-15 year-olds, with free entry for under-13s. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
