Masters Historic Racing confirms Oulton Park Gold Cup grids

Thursday, July 21 2022

Masters Historic Racing has published entry lists for its two races at the Oulton Park Gold Cup on 29-31 July, with two of the organisation's grids joining the Cheshire circuit's signature event programme for the first time.

Saturday's 'Cheshire Historic TT' Masters Gentlemen Drivers Race will see competitors battle for an hour in classic sports cars in homage to a five-year period in the mid-1960s when Oulton Park hosted the RAC Tourist Trophy. Star cars will include GT cars from iconic British manufacturers of the era including Lotus, TVR, Marcos and Jaguar.

Amongst the notable entries in a 21-car line-up are Masters Historic Racing Founder and President Ron Maydon, behind the wheel of a Ginetta G4R, whilst prolific retro racer Nigel Greensall will co-pilot a TVR Griffith 200 with John Spiers.

The iconic Jaguar E-type will be represented by Mark Russell's yellow example, whilst Dave Coyne and Robert Farrell will share another in grey and black. Former BTCC racer Mark Hales will be in action too, driving a TVR Griffith alongside Peter Thompson, whilst John Tordoff, well known chief executive of JCT 600 and father of former BTCC ace Sam Tordoff, is expected to be out in his Lotus Elan.

The Masters Pre-'66 Touring Cars will race on the Sunday with a mixture of powerful V8 tin tops sharing the track with smaller, nimble British saloons. At the more powerful end of the grid, BTCC legend Steve Soper will share a Ford Mustang with Henry Mann, after whose father this race is named - the 'Alan Mann Trophy'. Another American giant set to appear at the picturesque circuit is the Ford Falcon Sprint of Dan Williamson.

No fewer than 10 Ford Lotus Cortinas are lined up to take to the grid, whilst Harry Barton's BMW 1800 Tisa will stand out as the sole car on the grid from continental Europe. There will be two examples of the original Austin Mini Cooper S out too, allowing fans trackside to enjoy plenty of 'David vs Goliath' action.

The Masters Historic Racing grids will add more colour to this year's fully refreshed line-up, following the recent announcement of a capacity Historic Grand Prix Car Association line-up for the 'Historic Gold Cup' races. And with a strong entry in the HRDC 'Jack Sears Trophy', fans can look forward to crowd-pleasing classic touring car action on both the Saturday and Sunday.

More entries will be shared in due course, including for new guest categories from the Classic Sports Car Club and Vintage Sports-Car Club. All on-track activity will be overseen by the Historic Sports Car Club which will also bring a strong programme of its own championships and series to the weekend

Saturday and Sunday tickets are available from £22 with free entry for under-13s. For more information, please call 0344 225 4422 or click here.
