American SpeedFest 9: What's on track this June

Wednesday, May 18 2022

Brands Hatch will embrace US car culture in a big way when American SpeedFest 9 arrives on 11/12 June for two days of fuel-injected fun. All of the entertainment around the venue will carry an American influence, including retro car displays, star spangled food, monster truck shows, and plenty of other family fun.

This extends to the on-track race line-up too, which is headlined by the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series and features a specially curated support race line-up tailored to fit in with the theme.

American SpeedFest 9 on-track programme:

NASCAR Whelen Euro Series

The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (NWES) is the only officially stock car championship of its kind on this side of the Atlantic. Featuring colourful stock cars inspired by muscle cars from Chevrolet and Ford, the NWES offers authentic NASCAR entertainment. Four headline races will top the bill at SpeedFest 9 including a Sunday centrepiece which will be preceded by an American-style opening ceremony. The series features many of the finest stock car racers on the continent, many of whom fans can meet during a fan pit walk on Sunday.

Legends Cars National Championship

The pocket rockets of the Legends Cars National Championship will offer trackside fans a glimpse into NASCAR racing's past. These machines are 5/8th scale replicas of American hot rods from the bootlegging era when NASCAR was formed. With multiple races per day and reverse grids, lots of action is guaranteed. Look out for slipsteaming battles with cars running side-by-side through the corners.

Pickup Truck Racing Championship

The Pickup Truck Racing Championship is one of the UK's best established forms of stock car racing, and a popular part of the SpeedFest line-up. The field features silhouette trucks, based on machinery from Ford and Vauxhall and brings more NASCAR-flavoured action to the meeting with close racing, colourful liveries and exuberant drivers, who are willing to push hard for victory. Two Sunday races will ensure there are plenty of chances to see these beasts in action.

Bernie's V8s and Historic Outlaws

The race line-up wouldn't be complete without a spot of classic American muscle. Bernie's V8s and Historic Outlaws provides just that. This eclectic support series has been a part of the SpeedFest programme since the event debuted in 2013, and is a firm fan favourite. The grid typically features a mixture of retro American performance cars, facing off against other V8-powered models from across the globe.

SpeedFest Silhouettes

The SpeedFest Silhouettes are another long-standing part of the event's programme. The cars are based loosely on road-going production hatchbacks, but they're bespoke racing machines similar to cars raced on short ovals in the UK. This is another series with colourful cars, close racing, and stock car thrills.

In addition to a race programme dominated by competitive stock car action, there will be special demonstrations on both days featuring bona fide NASCAR machines raced in the USA. This will include machines orginally raced in the top level Cup Series, by some of the biggest names in NASCAR at events like the Daytona 500.
