Donington BTCC race 3: Hill rockets to victory in final contest

Sunday, April 24 2022

BMW's Jake Hill made amends for his earlier disappointments at Donington by dominating the final Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend.

Hill started on reverse grid pole and led every lap after making a good start, beating Ford's Ash Sutton by over two seconds.

Josh Cook claimed third for BTC Honda after a gutsy late pass through the Craners on Hyundai's Dan Lloyd, who had held the position for much of the race.

Race two winner, Lloyd's teammate Tom Ingram, climbed from eighth on the grid to fifth ahead of the Ciceley BMW of Adam Morgan.

Toyota's Rory Butcher logged his second top-10 finish of the day in seventh place, ahead of BMW's Colin Turkington, who gained four places throughout the contest.

Gordon Shedden started ninth and finished there for the Team Dynamics Honda squad, ahead of Bobby Thompson who completed the top-10 having started third in his Cupra Leon.

He finished well clear of teammate Aron Taylor-Smith, who had BTC Honda's Jason Plato and Ford's Dan Cammish breathing down his neck, while Stephen Jelley (BMW) and Ricky Collard (Toyota) were the final points scorers.

Ingram's win and subsequent podium in race two means the Hyundai driver leaves Donington Park as the early championship leader, with Shedden and Sutton close behind.
