Maini fastest for newcomers Hitech in F3 Oulton Park testing

Thursday, July 30 2020

BRDC British F3 returnee Kush Maini was the fastest driver in testing at Oulton Park today (Thursday), as preparations ramped up ahead of the opening rounds of the season at the Cheshire circuit this weekend (1/2 August).

Indian driver Maini - who was third overall in the series in 2018 - topped three of the four one-hour sessions, giving an ideal start to life in BRDC British F3 for new entrants Hitech GP, who have joined the championship for 2020.

Maini's best time of 1m31.833s came in the second session of the day, and was over three tenths of a second clear of nearest rival Bart Horsten (Lanan Racing). Australian Horsten was second fastest in three sessions, and was 0.060s clear of Double R Racing's Louis Foster, with Josh Skelton, driving for Chris Dittmann Racing, fourth overall having topped the first session of the day.

Kaylen Frederick returns for a second season with Carlin and was fifth on today's timesheets, just one thousandth of a second quicker than another returning driver, Douglas Motorsport's Ulysse De Pauw.

Recently-crowned British F3 iRacing Champion Nico Varrone was seventh for Chris Dittmann Racing, just ahead of Hillspeed's Oliver Clarke and Douglas Motorsport's Kiern Jewiss, with Lanan's Piers Prior completing a top-10 separated by less than nine tenths of a second.

Double R's Benjamin Pedersen was 11th and also within a second of the overall pace, with Manaf Hijjawi, the first Jordanian driver to ever compete in British F3, an encouraging 12th for Douglas Motorsport.

Brazilian driver Guilherme Peixoto was 13th for Carlin, ahead of Lanan's Josh Mason, with Sasakorn Chaimongkol (Hillspeed), Reece Ushijima (Hitech GP) and Nazim Azman (Carlin) completing the 17 runners expected to compete in the quartet of races at the season opener.

Testing resumes tomorrow, while qualifying and the first two races of the year take place on Saturday. Two more races follow on Sunday, which will be streamed live on the official BRDC British F3 website.
