Donington Park unveils packed 2020 calendar

Monday, March 09 2020

Donington Park will host another packed calendar of events in 2020, with racing on almost every weekend between March and October.

A mixture of international and top-line national events, interspersed with leading club race events on two and four wheels, will ensure race fans are kept entertained throughout the season.

The major international highlight is again the annual visit of the Motul FIM Superbike World Championship on 3-5 July. The world's top superbike contenders including multiple World Champion Jonathan Rea will take on the best the planet can offer, while reigning British Superbike champion Scott Redding will hope to make as much of an impact on the international scene as he did in the British paddocks last year.

The major event season starts with a bang courtesy of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship on 28-29 March, with the circuit hosting the opening round of the series for the first time since 2005.

The Donington Historic Festival returns in May for another three days of retro reminiscence, before the first visit of the year for the Bennetts British Superbike Championship later that month on the National circuit.

Three major events in successive weekends take place at the end of June and the start of July, with British GT and BRDC British F3 getting the ball rolling on 20-21 June, before Donington reverberates to the sound of classic F1 cars for the first time in five years, courtesy of the Masters Historic Formula One weekend. The annual visit of World Superbikes a week later completes an epic start to the summer.

The motorcycle theme continues in August with the Classic Motorcycle Festival, with bikes from the 1960s, '70s and '80s returning to action.

One of Donington's biggest family events, the Convoy in the Park truck racing festival, takes place in the middle of the school summer holidays in August, with two days of gargantuan track action and fully-loaded off track entertainment.

British GT and BRDC British F3 return for the concluding round of their seasons in September, with champions to be crowned in both categories during what is traditionally a dramatic weekend.

The final major race event of the season is the return visit of British Superbikes, with the penultimate round of the year on 2-4 October forming part of the all-important Showdown phase.

Before things come to a total close, the circuit will host Autohaus, an all-new German car show on 17 October, concurrently with a club-level race event.

As well as these major events, a full schedule of club racing events for cars and bikes, plus a strong selection of car shows, make this one of the most varied seasons in Donington's recent history.
