Redding on pole for BSB 'Big Brands Bash'

Saturday, June 15 2019

Newcomer Scott Redding takes his first Bennetts British Superbike Championship pole position at Brands Hatch for tomorrow's fourth-round clash on the Grand Prix circuit, with Be Wiser Ducati teammate and 2015 champion Josh Brookes beside him on the front row of the grid after this afternoon's three qualifying sessions.

Redding topped the timings, with reigning 'King of Brands' Brookes second and Jason O'Halloran third following a tough final session that saw Tarran Mackenzie stretchered off with concussion after a high-speed crash at Clark Curve.

Redding soon looked comfortable on the Grand Prix circuit and said he looked forward to battling teammate Brookes for the 'King of Brands' title, which is awarded for the best cumulative result over tomorrow's two races.

"I said if I come here and get on the podium I'll be happy, it's a new track, but if you're in a podium position you can fight for wins. Josh has got great pace out there, I think it will be a bit of a battle between me and Josh. Maybe a few guys in the beginning will be definitely be trying to get stuck in there, but I think me and Josh have got maybe a little bit more pace to get away and have our own battle and then we'll see who gets the crown," he said.

Redding and Brookes were separated by just 0.007s in qualifying, and tough tussles betwen others behind them too have set the stage for a thrilling day of racing tomorrow.
