Bank Holiday bikes - Bennetts BSB is back!

Monday, April 29 2019

The Bennetts British Superbike Championship roars into Oulton Park over the Early May Bank Holiday weekend (4-6 May) for round two of what is already shaping up to be one of the most exciting starts in the series' history.

Charismatic Scott Redding switched from MotoGP to join the Be Wiser Ducati team in a pack-a-punch partnership with 2015 champion Josh Brookes. But it was the young guns who took centre stage in the first round at Silverstone earlier this month, with two new Bennetts BSB winners on top step of the podium.

Taz Mackenzie and Josh Elliott traded the top two spots in the opening two races of the season, putting them joint first on the points table. But Brookes found his stride and dominated Thursday's official test at Oulton Park, leaving the competition wide open as the championship heads to the picturesque Cheshire circuit.

Mackenzie, who is embarking on his second full season in the championship, said: "I think Silverstone probably went better than expected to be honest; to fight for both wins and then take my first BSB win was more than I had expected from the weekend and it was a bit of a dream come true. I think because pre-season testing hadn't been the best for me and even the official test at Silverstone I was eighth.

"Now that I have done it though I want to do it again! I want to be in the Showdown for the first time this season, but I know Oulton Park has been a tough track for me in the past; I know there, Cadwell Park and Knockhill have been the tracks where I have found it hardest in the past."

And Elliott, who is racing for the first time in the Bennetts BSB championship, said: "It has been crazy since Silverstone; the phone hasn't stopped! I am still on a high with the results we had but at the same time I have to stay level-headed. The win was big; it was the first for me and the first for the team and it has been a real buzz in the garage.

"The test was my first time at Oulton Park on a Superbike and it was hard work! We had a few small problems in the morning so we didn't get in as many laps as we would have liked but we still have a good idea on where to start next weekend."

"Nobody expected us to be joint championship leaders after the first round so we want to come out fighting again next weekend and I think we can work hard and be there or thereabouts in the races again."

The event features two headline Bennetts BSB races on Bank Holiday Monday, plus support from the Dickies British Supersport, Pirelli National Superstock 600 and 1000 and more!

Fans can meet the riders for photos and autographs at the free pit walk on Monday at 11.20am and there's live music in Chequers marquee on Saturday and Sunday evenings, plus a funfair and adventure playground to keep the kids entertained.

Discounted adult weekend tickets are £38 online, with reductions for teens, but only until midday on Thursday. Kids under 13 go FREE all weekend. Click here to buy!
