DTM 2018: Paffett leading the way as Brands round approaches

Thursday, June 28 2018

Local driver Gary Paffett leads the German-based DTM championship ahead of its return to Brands Hatch this August, with just one round left to come ahead of the championship's return to Kent.

Paffett has won two races so far this year for his Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Petronas team, and leads the championship by six points from fellow Mercedes driver Edoardo Mortara. Paffett's wins at Hockenheim and EuroSpeedway Lausitz have been complemented by two additional podiums to ensure he leads the way with only the two races at Zandvoort remaining ahead of the Brands Hatch visit on 11-12 August.

Two-time DTM champion Marco Wittmann is currently third in the standings following two recent victories in his BMW M4, with ex F1 star Timo Glock in fourth. Only seven points separate the top-four drivers in the championship though, so the picture could be different before the championship arrives at Brands Hatch.

Other Britons to look out for include Scottish Mercedes race and former F1 ace Paul Di Resta, who sits fifth in the table with a single race win to his name, whilst Jamie Green is further down the table for Audi but can never be counted out with 16 DTM race wins to his name.

The DTM is home to the world's most advanced touring cars and each race event features two headline races, one each on Saturday and Sunday. The DTM will race on the legendary Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit for the first time this summer, after last appearing on the Indy circuit in 2013.

Discounted advance adult tickets are £45 for the weekend, or £30 for the Saturday or Sunday with reductions for teens (13-15) - and kids under 13 go free. For more details and to book click here.
