SpeedFest VI set for sizzling super Sunday

Sunday, June 10 2018

American SpeedFest's super Sunday is here, with a full-day's turbocharged motoring entertainment on and off the circuit at Kent's Brands Hatch.

Racing at the iconic speed bowl will be headlined by the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (NWES), but that will be just one part of an event which is so much more than a race meeting. Adult tickets for this star-spangled spectacular are available on the gate for £30, with a discounted rate for 13-15-year-olds, and FREE admission for under-13s.

The headlining NWES is Europe's only officially endorsed NASCAR stock car series, and two races will take the centre stage today, with the first to be preceded by an opening ceremony, with all the fun of the fair. This will set the scene for the afternoon's on-track action with all the pomp and ceremony we've come to expect from the Stars and Stripes, there may even be a surprise or two as well!

Grid access during the opening ceremony is only for those with wristbands, but there will be plenty of vantage points along the main straight to watch from. There will be an earlier opportunity to meet the drivers of SpeedFest VI during a pit walk at 9:20.

The NWES racing will form the centrepiece of an American themed race line-up, with a 31-car grid of monstrous V8s clattering around the venue's natural amphitheatre. Names to look out for will include NASCAR legend Bobby Labonte who has switched to European competition this year.

In addition to the racing, there will be loads to see and do, with a HUGE off-track spread, with everything from monster truck rides to appearances from Star Wars characters via a BBQ competition. There will even be a hot dog competition and entries are open to anybody who wishes to take part -just arrive at the Live Action Arena ahead of 10:30 to register your interest.

The car displays will be must-see attractions too, with huge quantities of American muscle expected to descend upon the venue to create a Route 66 parking lot. Star cars will include the real Herbie, as used during filming for The Love Bug, and a number of replica movie cars.

Special cars will be showcased throughout the day at the Live Action Arena, with three shows for classic and custom cars, powerful muscle cars, and lowriders. Action here will be hosted by American superbike racer James Rispoli - he's a real character and will ensure these shows are larger than life!

As is traditional, SpeedFest will conclude with a massive car parade on the circuit with plenty of honking of horns and flashing headlights.

Full details of tomorrow's activities will be available within the pages of the special souvenir programme which is available from the venue megastore and other vendors for £5.
