Double delight for van der Mark at Donington Park

Sunday, May 27 2018

Michael van der Mark followed up his debut Motul FIM Superbike World Championship race victory yesterday in style by making it a double on the final day of action at Donington Park, giving the Pata Yamaha team a home round celebration.

In the second race Lorenzo Savadori had taken the advantage on the opening lap, but soon Alex Lowes had eased ahead and was fighting to take his first ever victory in WorldSBK. However, behind Jonathan Rea was closing in after cutting his way through the pack and the lead trio soon became Lowes leading Rea and van der Mark.

Lowes was soon under attack and the three battled at the front for the advantage, but a determined van der Mark had soon hit the front and was edging away from the pair scrapping behind him. As the laps counted down, Rea and Lowes' positions came under threat from Toprak Razgatlioglu, who saved his best until last to move to second.

Championship leader Rea held onto third ahead of Lowes with Chaz Davies managing to fight through the order to finish in fifth place ahead of yesterday's podium finisher Tom Sykes and Savadori.

Leon Camier was eighth for Red Bull Honda with Jordi Torres and Loris Baz completing the top ten.
