Truck racers spring back into action at Brands Hatch this Easter

Wednesday, March 28 2018

The British Truck Racing Association Championship season gets underway at Brands Hatch this Easter weekend (1/2 April), with two grids of the big rigs ready to spring into action on the Indy circuit.

Two championships are up for grabs this year, and both grids are the most open they have been in years. In the top class, champion Ryan Smith has elected not to defend his crown, so former champions Stuart Oliver and David Jenkins start the year as favourites. Oliver has ten titles to his name, plus a European championship, whilst Jenkins is the most recent champion on the grid and drives one of the previously-dominant MAN rigs. Both are renowned for their uncompromising racing style, and Jenkins is one of the most spectacular truck racers in the world.

Truck racing is notoriously unpredictable, however, and there are many drivers ready to spring a surprise this weekend. The list includes another former champion, Richard Collett, and proven race-winners Luke Taylor and Simon Reid, whilst there are several new talents in the field.

Division two is headed by multiple class champion Steven Powell, who lives just a few miles from Brands Hatch. His brother John, a title challenger returns, but both will be under attack from 2016 class champion Adam Bint in his distinctive bonneted Volvo White.

The class also contains several drivers ready to score an early advantage, including Dartford's Simon Cole, Sevenoaks' James Aitkenhead, and front-running driver Luke Garrett.

The trucks will be out for their qualifying sessions from 11.20am on Easter Sunday, and there are two races scheduled that day for Division 1 at 2.05pm and Division 2 at 4.35pm. On Easter Monday there are a further five races scheduled throughout the day, including a Grand Final incorporating both classes to bring the event to a spectacular climax.

The event also features a packed support race programme, plus off-track entertainment, much of which is focussed on Easter Monday including England's Strongest Disabled Man and Woman contests, monster truck rides, a stunt show, children's entertainment, driving experiences, live music and much more.

Tickets for Easter Truck Racing at Brands Hatch on 1/2 April are available on the gate for £16 on Sunday and £25 on Monday, with discounts for teens and free entry for under-13s. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
