British GT Championship launches for 2018!

Thursday, March 08 2018

A capacity full-season entry of 36 supercars has been announced to contest this season's British GT Championship, which officially launched at Donington Park today (Thursday), ahead of its opening rounds at Oulton Park on Easter Weekend (31 March-2 April).

The bumper entry comprises 36 regular entries, including 13 cars in the GT3 class, and a further 23 in the GT4 class, with 10 manufacturers represented in total. This means that the championship will kick off in Cheshire at the start of April with its healthiest entry since 2014.

Six manufacturers will battle for honours in the GT3 class, with Aston Martin, Bentley, Lamborghini, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG and Nissan all represented in the top class. This year's GT3 class is packed with top class talents, with a host of Europe's finest factory GT aces signed up to take part.

Superstar drivers appearing this year will include ex-BTCC ace and Le Mans class winner Darren Turner, as well as his fellow Aston Martin Works drivers Jonny Adam, Nicki Thiim, Marco Sorensen, and Maxime Martin - all regular front runners on the world stage.

Plus, reigning champion Rick Parfitt Jr returns to the wheel of his Team Parker Racing Bentley Continental GT3, ensuring front running representation for Oulton Park's local manufacturer.

This year's GT4 line-up includes new cars from BMW, Jaguar and Mercedes-AMG, which join the ranks alongside previously seen models from Aston Martin, Ginetta, McLaren, Nissan and Toyota.

The championship will kick off on Easter Weekend at Oulton Park, with off-track entertainment on the bank holiday Monday making it one of the must-attend events of the British GT season. Following that, the championship will visit Snetterton, Brands Hatch, and Donington Park throughout the year.

Championship Manager Benjamin Franassovici said: "2018's British GT Championship entry list features all the ingredients necessary to serve up a classic season, and in terms of quality - drivers, teams and manufacturers - it could well turn out to be the best in our history. Both classes look exceptional, with GT3's Pro driver roster understandably grabbing most of the early headlines. But it's also great to see new teams and Am drivers joining the class, while we're delighted to welcome back full-season Nissan and McLaren entries. An influx of new cars has also helped GT4 take another step forward; it's incredible to have 23 full-season entries represented by eight manufacturers this year, and more to come on a race-by-race basis at our larger venues as 2018 progresses. There's also plenty of talent lurking amongst the GT4 grid that wouldn't look out of place in GT3 - hopefully many of those drivers will take the opportunity to progress with us over the coming seasons."
