Just 50 days to go until 2017 season starts with Brands Hatch rally

Friday, December 02 2016

There are just 50 days to go until the 2017 season gets underway at Brands Hatch with the MGJ Engineering Winter Stage Rally on Saturday 21 January, and tickets are now on sale for just £12, or £8 to 13-15 year-olds, with free entry to under-13s.

Brands Hatch will be transformed into a series of eight rally stages for the event, with routes incorporating the Indy circuit in both directions, pits, paddock, access roads and event the venue's dedicated rally stage. Unlike forest rallies, the Kent venue's natural amphitheatre offers a superb view of the action, with free access to the Pit Straight and Hailwoods grandstands as well as the spectator banks.

The event forms part of the MSVR-run Motorsport News Circuit Rally Championship, and this has attracted over 90 entries. This highly-varied list includes many classics, with an abundance of the 1960s and 70s rear-wheel-drive Ford Escorts as well as the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus that rivalled it in period.

Equally as popular are the Subaru Imprezas and Mitsubishi Evos of the 1990s, evoking memories of sideways heroes Colin McRae, Richard Burns and Tommi Makinen. These supercars of the forests will be joined by a few of the rare supercar-based Ferrari 308 Michelottos from the previous decade.

Other famous rally shapes from the 1990s include the Ford Escort Cosworth, Peugeot 306 Maxi and Ford Focus. They'll be joined by a plethora of hatchbacks including Renaults, Nissans, Vauxhalls, VWs and more tackling the many hairpin bends, leaps and surface changes.

The change to a Saturday date for 2017 means that the event will commence earlier at 9am and will run into darkness, when the stages will be lit by headlights, with glowing brake discs and flaming exhausts adding to the spectacle.

Tickets for the MGJ Engineering Winter Stage Rally at Brands Hatch on Saturday 21 January are now on sale for just £12, or £8 to 13-15 year-olds, with free entry to under-13s. For more information or to book, call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
