Truck racers heading home for Donington’s heavyweight highlight

Monday, July 09 2018

The British Truck Racing Association Championship is gearing up for a return to the 'home' of truck racing in the UK, Donington Park, at the family-friendly Convoy in the Park on 21-22 July.

Donington was the first venue in the country to host truck racing back in 1984, and has been a regular destination for the series ever since.

This year's battle developed further at the weekend (7-8 July) at Thruxton, with series leader Ryan Smith putting on a virtuoso display, winning all Division One races in style.

Smith had to work hard for them, for after winning the first race from pole, had to then fight his way from the back for the remaining contests, thanks to truck racing's reverse grid rules.

Nonetheless, he demonstrated that while trucks may be the biggest things to take to the racetrack this year, they're also among the raciest, as he surged through the field in the three remaining races to claim a clean sweep of victories.

In Division Two, Steve Powell took a double victory with Luke Garrett and Brad Smith also taking wins, with Garrett's triumph being his first in truck racing.

The next races for the series take place at Donington Park's massive Convoy in the Park event on 21-22 July, with an epic 10-race line-up recently confirmed by organisers BARC. Click  here to download the provisional timetable.

Adult tickets for Convoy in the Park are available in advance until midday on Thursday 19 July, priced from just £20 per day or £30 for the full two-day weekend. Discounted rates are also available for children aged 13-15. For more information or to book, click here
