Local BTCC heroes headline stunning Oulton rally entry list

Wednesday, September 13 2017

British Touring Car Championship favourites Paul O'Neill and Adam Morgan will star at the Neil Howard Memorial Stage Rally and Fireworks event at Oulton Park on Saturday 4 November, with both men entering behind the wheel of Paul Sheard Racing Mazda MX-5s.

Widnes-born O'Neill, the half-brother of Spice Girl Mel C, was a fan favourite during his mid-2000s BTCC stint, and he is returning for a second attempt at the Cheshire circuit's season closer. O'Neill, who won at the picturesque venue for Vauxhall in the BTCC, returns to the event after a truncated first appearance last year in which he retired from the event early.

Riding shotgun as co-driver with O'Neill will be Motorsport News and Autosport's Group National Editor Jack Benyon.

Blackburn-based Morgan, who currently races a Mercedes-Benz A-Class in the BTCC, will make his event debut as O'Neill's team-mate with Chris Kenyon joining him as co-driver.

Other key entries to look out for will be the Ford Fiesta WRC of two-time event winner and sponsor Graham Coffey with Victoria Myers as his co-driver, whilst last year's winners Kevin Proctor with Derek Durham will return in another Fiesta.

Last year's Motorsport News Circuit Rally ChampionsIan Woodhouse and Paul Rowland will be back too in their retro Ford Escort MkII.

Aside from the traditional rally cars, there will be plenty of variety amongst the cars appearing on the stages; the Lotus Exige of Scotsman Alistair Inglis for example.

Event Organiser Andy Long said: "We have been inundated with phenomenal entries for our event we can't wait for everyone to come along and take part in the fantastic rally at such an iconic circuit."

Motorsport News Circuit Rally Championship Co-ordinator Darren Spann said: "It looks set to be a great championship once again, one which we are sure everyone will enjoy.  We can't wait for it to get started again at Oulton Park in November especially with such a special entry list."
