Snetterton sizzle at Buckmore Park HSF fundraiser

Friday, October 18 2019

Four of Snetterton's staff put the pedal to the metal last night (Thursday) as one of the six MotorSport Vision teams at the Henry Surtees Foundation charity fundraiser at Buckmore Park Karting Circuit.

The Henry Surtees Foundation was founded by motor racing legend John Surtees following the death of his 18-year-old son Henry, who was killed while competing in a Formula 2 race at Brands Hatch in 2009.

The charity focuses on helping people with brain or physical injuries to return to community living by providing the necessary equipment and facilities. It also provides education and training in motorsport-related technology and engineering programmes, plus road safety instruction for two and four wheels.

Leonora Martell-Surtees, Henry's sister, begun the evening's activities with a speech before a demonstration of John's classic MV Agusta motorcycle and a Surtees TS10-02 Formula 2 car, resplendent in the iconic Matchbox livery of the early '70s.

MSV fielded six teams in the 25-strong field, each comprising staff from Brands Hatch, Donington Park, Oulton Park, Snetterton, Cadwell Park, and Bedford Autodrome. Each team took to the circuit for a damp 20-minute qualifying session before the two-hour race.

Brands Hatch's team performed best of the MSV bunch with a third place in qualifying overall with MSV Trackdays' sometime MINI racer Alex Nevill behind the wheel before a charging drive to tenth in the race. Bedford Autodrome's PalmerSport squad fared next best of the MSV teams in 16th place, two spots ahead of Cadwell Park with Snetterton a further place adrift.

Donington Park's team eventually recorded a 22nd place finish with Oulton Park's 'Druids' bringing up the rear in 25th.

Making up Snetterton's team were George King (Maintenance Foreman), Stan Burton (Marshal), Graeme Cameron (Marshal) and David Whapshott (Cleaner).
