Bumper entry for Snetterton truck races this weekend

Wednesday, September 06 2017

This weekend's (9/10 September) eight British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC) races at Snetterton will provide plenty of thrills and spills with 27 trucks set to tear up the Norfolk tarmac.

The BTRC title race enters a crucial stage at Snetterton, with just two meetings remaining after this weekend's Norfolk encounter. This means that many of the drivers will be determined to take the initiative at on the 300 circuit.

In Division 1, defending champion Ryan Smith has a clear lead in the championship standings, but behind the MAN driver there's a formidable quartet amongst the 12-strong entry that includes former champions David Jenkins (MAN), Stuart Oliver (Volvo) and Mat Summerfield (MAN). All three, plus new title contender Shane Brereton (MAN) will be on the offensive this weekend as they aim to close the gap.

Division 2 contains 15 trucks, and this group is led by flying Finn Mika Makinen, who has lived up to his high-speed name by claiming many race victories this year. The Scandinavian's spectacular style on board his Sisu truck has gained him many fans this season, and will be one to watch this weekend.

Lining up to halt the Finn's progress will be Simon Cole's Mercedes and reigning class champion Adam Bint on board his faithful Volvo White. Others to look out for include former champion Steve Powell, who debuted an ERF earlier this year, and local eyes will be firmly focussed on Bungay's Jim Bennett (Seddon Atkinson)

All of the drivers will be taking part in a grid walk free to all at Sunday lunchtime, where they will be signing autographs before heading back into battle. With reverse-grids and wheel-to-wheel duelling at up to 100mph, it's set to be a spectacular event.
