Bennetts BSB FP1: Buchan leads the early times

Friday, September 24 2021

Danny Buchan left it until the final minute to set the fastest time in the opening Bennetts British Superbike Championship SUPERPICKS Free Practice session at Oulton Park this afternoon, firing the SYNETIQ BMW ahead of FHO Racing BMW's Peter Hickman in the closing stages.

Hickman had gone to the top of the times at the midway point of the session and was initially holding the advantage from six of his seven Title Fighter rivals with Jason O'Halloran holding second position.

Bridewell then moved into second in the final ten minutes, pushing O'Halloran, Glenn Irwin and Josh Brookes back down the order, however, in the final three minutes the order shuffled again with some final flying laps in the session.

As Buchan surged to the top ahead of Hickman, Bridewell was able to hold his position, as Showdown spoilers Lee Jackson, Andrew Irwin, Bradley Ray and Ryan Vickers separated the Title Fighters on the times at the chequered flag.

O'Halloran was eighth fastest ahead of Gino Rea, with Brookes completing the top ten. Glenn Irwin, Christian Iddon and Tarran Mackenzie were all just nudged outside of the leading ten positions ahead of this afternoon's second session.
