WRC title battle heads up ahead of Dayinsure Oulton Park Stage

Monday, September 16 2019

The battle for the 2019 FIA World Championship (WRC) is really ramping up ahead of the championship's highly anticipated return to Cheshire's Oulton Park on Thursday 3 October.

Wales Rally GB (WRGB) kicks off with an evening stage around the picturesque racing circuit at the Dayinsure Oulton Park Stage, and the title battle will resume with renewed edge, following a much needed win for Sebastien Ogier in last weekend's Rally Turkey.

Ogier will have to come from behind if he's to claim an extraordinary seventh successive crown, but this win takes him to second in the WRC standings, just 17 adrift of leader Ott Tanak, with 90 available across the remaining three rounds including WRGB.

Toyota's Tanak has enjoyed a blistering run of form of late, winning four of the six most recent rallies, but retirement in Turkey, allied with Ogier's first win since March sets things up nicely ahead of Oulton Park's first WRC action since 1993.

Ogier and Tanak will be joined in the title fight by Thierry Neuville who sits just another 13 points further back. Others to look out for during the 75th running of Rally GB will include British favourites Kris Meeke and Elfyn Evans, plus Ireland's Craig Breen.

Fans can see Petter Solberg in action too as he contests the stages behind the wheel of a Volkswagen Polo R5 as part of his farewell tour.
