Redding rides to victory in Assen as showdown heads to Donington

Monday, September 23 2019

The Bennetts British Superbike Championship Showdown got underway at Assen at the weekend with Scott Redding proving to be a dominant force, with two wins from two races. The Showdown now heads to Donington Park on 4-6 October, with Redding holding a small advantage over his teammate Josh Brookes.

Redding performed a lights-to-flag win in the weekend's opening race leading Luke Stapleford, Tommy Bridewell and Josh Brookes into the first corner, with Bridewell moving into second position towards the end of the opening lap.

A hard charging Bridewell clung to the rear of the Be Wiser Ducati bike of Redding however it was not to be with Bridewell crashing out on lap nine, with Christian Iddon also falling at the same corner.

With Redding clear of the rest, the battle was well and truly underway for second place with Brookes, Stapleford and Jason O'Halloran locked in a three-way fight. Brookes wrestled his way into second whilst O'Halloran rounded out the top three.

The second race brought a fantastic start from Stapleford with the Buildbase Suzuki rider leading Redding, Bridewell and Brookes off of the line. It was Brookes who made the first move with Bridewell dropping to fourth early on.

The pack capitalized on a mistake from Stapleford at the circuit's final chicane with Bridewell taking the lead followed by Brookes and Redding, before Brookes moved into first.

Next it was Redding's turn to make a move as he fought his way into second before darting down the inside of Brookes to take the lead. With multiple jostles for position behind it was Bridewell who came home in second followed by the FS-3 Racing Kawasaki of Danny Buchan.

A successful weekend for the Be Wiser Ducati team puts Redding on top of the standings heading to Donington Park. Brookes sits just 14 points adrift of his teammate whilst Bridewell rounds out the top three. Buchan is fourth whilst McAMS Yamaha rider Tarran Mackenzie is in fifth. Peter Hickman completes the Showdown Six.
