Victory for Anderson and Powell with Smith crowned champion

Sunday, November 03 2019

A bumper morning of racing brought plenty of thrills and spills in the British Truck Racing Championship with victory for both Jamie Anderson and Steven Powell in Division 1 and Division 2 respectively. Ryan Smith also enjoyed a taste of the victory champagne in the morning sun after securing his fourth consecutive Division 1 title in the day's opening race.

Division 1 victory went the way of Jamie Anderson with the MAN TGX driver securing his second victory of the 2019 season, taking the chequered flag with a gap of just 0.6 seconds over ten-time champion Stuart Oliver.

It was Ricky Collett who lead the convoy into Paddock Hill Bend before spinning at Clearways, handing the lead to Jamie Anderson.

A brief slide from Ray Coleman left the door open for ten-time champion Stuart Oliver to slip into second with the rest of the chasing pack following suit. David Jenkins crossed the line in third, with Ryan Smith finishing the race in fourth and subsequently securing the Division 1 title at the same time. John Newell completed the top five.

A chaotic race for competitors of the Division 2 series saw Steven Powell continue his 100% success record this weekend with a visit to the top step of the podium after a hard fought battle with Paul Rivett.

A good start for Powell saw him build a lead of over two seconds over second place starter Luke Garrett, followed by John Bowler and a hard-charging Paul Rivett. It wasn't long until Rivett began his hunt to the front of the pack with the 2018 Renault Clio Cup Champion snatching third place from John Bowler on the way up towards Druids. Rivett's dominant form continued snatching second place from current champion Luke Garrett before taking the lead of the race from Steven Powell at Graham Hill bend.

However, it wasn't to be with a power steering issue forcing Rivett to struggle through the last few corners, enabling second place Steven Powell to take overtake and take the chequered flag.
